Pin Up Girls

I am such a sucker for the old 50's pin up girl posters.  They are so vintage, and so beautiful.  That was a time when women wanted to be sexy, but in a more classy way.  These ladies seemed to leave more to the imagination.  Not to mention I am completely in love with the wardrobe choices of that time.

I have been playing around with pin up photography for a few months now, and this was after months of research on posing, lighting, and clothing.  I have a beautiful model who loves the vintage style of pin up girls.  We went out this summer and took some beautiful shots in her dresses, but I wanted to take it a bit farther and do pin up boudoir.  Last week my model came over with all of her awesome wardrobe ideas, and we had ourselves a little session.  I got some great shots, but as I was editing they just were not coming out the way I really wanted them to.  I like my edits, and they did look vintage, but there was something missing.  I spent the next few days researching pin up girl editing, and I must say I was not happy with how little there is out there.  Not to mention what I did find, while informative just didn't hit that look that I had in mind.  With all my new information I went back to Photoshop and really started playing with my image.  Finally I was able to come up with what I had in mind!  This image is completely pin up girl!

If I have requests for it, I will work on a tutorial for what I did.  It surprising wasn't to complicated once I found a technique I was happy with!  So do I have you curious on how the image turned out?  I am going to post the first edit I did during this session, and then I will post my newest edit.  The one that will now be my guide to pin up editing!

You can definitely see the pin up style here.  The skin tones look more like a painting than a photograph and the colors are vivid.  I do love this image, and my awesome girl can rock the posing and looks that I want!

The look I was wanting to achieve was more like this image.  This is a pin up picture of Bettie Page I believe.  She along with Betty Grable were two of the most famous pin up girls.
As you can tell this style is a bit different than my first image.

Ok now that I've got you wondering (hopefully!)  I will post my new image...
TaDa!  I absolutely love how this one looks much more light a painting than my first one.  You can see more light tones in her skin, and the areas where it darkens looks more like a poster.  I know it's a bit more smooth than the example image I showed, but I did that specifically.  Although now that I've done this image, I'm starting to wish I would have put lips in the background instead of bubbles... I think that might have worked a bit better with the theme of this image.

Anyways I hope you like it!  I absolutely love this image and edit!  Now I think I'm going to go back to some of the images from this summer and give them this effect!
