Vadering

Last night I posted a picture that my husband was all to excited to be a part of ( which is a rarity in this house as he gets tired of all my crazy requests).  This idea came about a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon an article about the new photo craze.  It's called Vadering!  Normally I am not one to join in on these little fads, but this one was right up my alley (well my husbands alley).  Here is the article that set my creative plan into motion!

My mind started working through different ideas and scenarios that would not only be part of the Vadering fad, but that would be funny too.  My daughter hates going to bed and generally throws a fit, so then the ideas just started flowing!  My daughter was about to become part of the photo! I ran a few ideas by my husband, and he loved the bedtime idea.  Now with the plan in motion, I had to get going on bringing it to life.  I wanted this image to look amazing!  Getting Samantha to hold her hand in the correct form was very difficult as she kept turning her hand, or balling her fist up, or bending her arm.  That was not acceptable for this image because I wanted it to be perfect!  I ended up giving her something to hold and act like she was giving it to Her daddy.  This added some extra editing for me, but it was worth it.  To get the correct look with my husband in the air, I had to have a high shutter speed so he looked frozen in the final image.  Since I was using a flash, I had to get him in the air at the correct time, so I couldn't just take several images of his jump.  I counted; he jumped, and it only took one take! Last I had to get my base image so I could edit out the glass Samantha was holding.

I had my before image in one take, but the Vadering image was about 3 different pictures that I needed to combine.  If you plan on doing this, make sure to use a tripod as it makes layering images much easier.  Once all of my images were combined and masked, I found the perfect Darth Vader quote and added it to the image.  Getting the correct font was key.  There are sites you can download Jedi fonts, but then you must install it.  It's not a bad route to take, but I found an easier way.  I used a font that was already in photoshop that looked similar.  I then used some of the photoshop effects and filters available to create the white outline which made the font look much more like a Star Wars font!

Here is my rendition of Vadering!
